Here to Stay

Dear Friends,

For most of the past four years I have traveled regularly to Portland to see clients. I have now closed my Portland office and am in Eugene full time. When I began working in Portland there was a possibility I might eventually move there. I was born in Eugene and have lived most of my life here. At age 58 I have decided I want to stay closer to friends and roots. I love Eugene and I love my work. I hope to continue to practice and teach in Eugene for many more years.

Evolution of Practice

My work continues to evolve. I am a chronic student always learning new things and deepening familiar directions. My original training was as a Rolfer, and for more than 20 years I practiced only using the myofascial methods and ten series format taught by the Rolf Institute. Since then I have had extensive training in a range of osteopathic soft tissue methods including visceral manipulation, cranial manipulation, craniosacral therapy, muscle energy technique, and strain counter-strain.

Ida Rolf studied extensively with osteopaths on the way to developing her own work. All of the philosophy and goals Dr. Rolf expressed for Rolfing are part of the osteopathic cannon. Dr. Rolf brought certain elements of osteopathy to the foreground, particularly the relationship of the human body to gravity. Osteopathic soft tissue methods are highly useful to achieve the goals of Rolfing more easily and thoroughly, therefore I now only occasionally use the myofascial methods I learned in Rolf Institute classrooms. The goals of Rolfing continue to be central to my practice.

Flowers

In the early 20th century English physician Edward Bach developed a set of
homeopathic remedies from wildflowers. These have gained wide acceptance in the
healing community for a broad range of applications. You can learn more about Dr. Bach at www.bachcentre.com. More recently others have developed similar homeopathic remedies from plants in other parts of the world. Many of these remedies are useful to support bodywork. An example is when a person’s body seems to have absorbed all the change during a treatment session, often the right flower essence will allow the body to accept more change. This provides a more complete and productive treatment session.

Class for Non-Professionalsin CranioSacral Therapy

I will offer an introductory one day workshop in CranioSacral Therapy for non- professionals on Saturday, September 16. Learn how to relieve strain and discomfort for family and friends. Tuition $50. Time: 9 AM - 4:30 PM. Class size is limited to 12 students so register early. To register visit www.jeffreyburch.com or call (541) 689- 1515. For more information about craniosacral therapy visit www.upledger.com or www.jeffreyburch.com.

Website Updates: Insurance

I am in the process of updating my website. Within a few days there will be a new section with basic information for new clients. In the past I have mailed or emailed this information to new clients before their first session. It will now be conveniently available for download from the website.

Before the end of June there will be a new section with information about insurance coverage. Later in the summer the website section on whiplash and related injuries will be additionally developed.

Visitors

I am often asked by clients if they can bring a family member or friend with them to treatment sessions. I am always glad to have other people in the room during treatments. The presence of a friend or family member often helps clients feel more relaxed, and sometimes their questions and observations bring out aspects of the treatment for valuable discussion. Please feel free to bring others with you to your treatment sessions.

Tune Ups

It is always a good idea to receive one or two treatments a year even if there are no symptoms. It is often possible to take care of distortion in the body before symptoms appear.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Burch
