What to WearWhat should I wear during my treatment?During this type of treatment, the client moves frequently between lying down, standing, walking and sitting. During treatment sessions a balance must be found between modesty and access to the surface of the body. Many kinds of street clothes can be worn during treatment. Exceptions and recommendations are listed below. The type of draping used in Swedish massage cannot be used. Gowns are not useful as they interfere with visual assessment. What to wear during treatment has evolved over time with increasing options. However, there are still some things to avoid. Rolfing was classically done with the client in underwear or swimsuits swimsuits. To allow access to the midsection this has to be two piece swimsuits for women. Over the years, new assessment methods have been developed which rely less on sight. These new assessment methods allow more modest clothing options during treatment sessions. Most athletic clothing works well; shorts for everyone and for women, tank tops, tube tops, or athletic bras. While it is possible to work through or around most clothing, soft fabrics such as sweatpants are easier to work with. In this situation, outer garments (jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts) are removed before the treatment begins. Avoid wearing spandex or other very tight fitting clothing. These can interfere with both assessment and treatment. Denim and other hard fabrics are very difficult to work through and may have to be removed during the treatment. What jewelry can be worn during treatment sessions? Most jewelry should be removed before a treatment session as the weight of metals and stones can interfere with both assessment and treatment. Most body piercings should be removed. Smaller pieces similar to small stud earrings may successfully be left in place. Wedding bands can usually be worn. When in doubt, take it out. Removing jewelry before arriving for a treatment session will save time during the treatment hour. I usually wear fragrances. Is there any downside to this? Fragrances worn by clients sometimes linger in the treatment room for hours after their departure. Some clients are strongly affected by fragrances and may have allergic or asthmatic responses. For the comfort of other clients, please avoid wearing fragrances to your treatment sessions. Please feel free at any time to bring up any issue related to your comfort during treatment sessions. |
